ミニマリズムの巨匠ダン･フレイヴィンの展覧会をEspace Louis Vuittonで観てきました。
　

　
とにかく蛍光灯を使った作品を作っているアーティストで、光を作品としているのだけれども、光が何かを表現しとかではなく、ただただ蛍光灯の光と色というものに焦点をあてた作品を作っています。
　

フレイヴィンの作品は、素材である「光」を宗教的、あるいは神秘的に解釈することを一切退けます。光は単に、それ自体の存在を表すものとしてのみ用いられているのです。つまりそれは、本質的に「状況的(situational)」なものであり、作品に占有された物理的空間、そして鑑賞者とその空間に生まれる相互作用に焦点が当てられているのです。

　

　
とあるように、そのストイックなまでに無機質な感じは飾り気がなく、ミニマリズムの極地であり宗教／神秘的な解釈を必要とせずそこにあるそのままを作品として鑑賞することができ、とにかく素晴らしいです。白い蛍光灯だけでなく、その他のカラフルな色の作品なんかもあります。それもまた美しく素晴らしいです。なんどでもみられるし、ずっと観ていたい気にもなるオススメの展覧会です。
　

　
JUDDに捧げた作品のようなものもあるわけだろうけども、JUDDの寝室にDAN FLAVINの巨大な作品が並んでいたことを思い出しました。
